These may or may not cause itching and discharges and there are very rare occasions of bleeding. However, the symptoms are uncomfortable and can be bothersome and annoying as they are not really that attractive to look at. Worse, if these are left untreated, they may just cause cervical cancer in women.

There are vaccinations against the HPV-16 and HPV-18, Gardasil and Cervarix, which a female child as young as 9 years old could have. However, there are some who have these symptoms. It is important to remember that there are ways to remove the warts, whether in the privacy of the home or with the help from the gynaecologist or physician of choice. Note: it is safer to go to a doctor rather than self-medicate. That said, here are some medicines that can remove genital warts.

Topical prescriptive creams like Imiquimod and Podofilox can be applied in the privacy of homes. It will take several weeks to get rid of all the symptoms; however, the success ratio of totally eliminating the warts depends on how the patient uses the creams and frequencies of the lesions are.

The Center for Disease Control recommend the use of tricloracetic or bicloracetic acid in the treatment and destruction of the genital warts. These acids destroy the wart tissue and have to be applied by the doctor in the course of several weeks. It may not be considered a painful process, but it still safe to apply a topical anaesthetic if the need arises. This treatment, however, is not very effective on large warts and there are some cases of resistant warts.

5-flourouracil Epinephrine Gel is a treatment that destroys the cells that create the warts and not the wart itself, but it is not a cure and could not be used on internal warts.

Liquid nitrogen or cryotherapy can also be applied by the doctor in the clinic and can destroy the wart tissue effectively by freezing it off. It works very well on large areas and in places where the topical creams cannot be applied. It is advantageous in it’s one to two times application rather than the weeks or three months application.

Again, these medicines should never be applied without the prescription and guidance of the physician and it is also important to have a regular check-up on the improvement with the use of the medicine.
